Charlotte Bakers life is simple, or at least she feels like it is. Her only worries in high school are friends, her boyfriend, dances, and working long hours to help support her younger siblings. When a school project requires her to interview her grandfather about his wartime service, however, her life quickly turns upside-down. He mentions being a spy for a government agency that uncovered lost artifacts to help fight in wars. 

Her life soon takes another twist when a new boy from out of town arrives the day after does research on her grandpa’s past. The information that explains her grandfather’s identity, one she was never to mention to anyone. The boy becomes desperate to gain her trust, but is he there for her or her grandfather? When she is unable to find any evidence of her grandfather’s war experiences after his death, she starts to feel like his life is really just normal after all. That is, up until a mysterious package arrives with a special memento from her grandfather, which unlocks all his journal discoveries for her on her 18th birthday. The findings force her to make an unforgivable decision: a decision that leads her to a new school, new life, and new discoveries.
